3D Technology Checklist

This product is 3D-related. To help you get a great 3D experience, use the checklist below to ensure you have everything you need. 3D viewing requires:

A Display
First, you'll need a 3D-ready display--whether it's a 3D HDTV, 3D projector, or 3D computer monitor. These displays have more processing power than standard 2D models for displaying 3D images in rapid succession.
A Source
Your display may be ready for 3D playback, but you'll still need a device to read 3D content. This can be a cable box with a subscription to a 3D channel, a 3D Blu-ray Disc player, or a PlayStation 3 system.
3D Content
3D content--the actual entertainment, in other words--will be played back using the source mentioned above, whether it's a 3D broadcast from your cable provider, a 3D Blu-ray Disc, or a 3D video game.
3D Glasses
For now, the vast majority of 3D HDTVs require glasses for 3D viewing. Many use powered "active shutter" glasses, others polarized "passive" glasses. You'll need one pair per viewer, and they'll have to be compatible with your display, whether they're the same brand, or a pair of "universal" glasses designed to work across brands.
HDMI Cable
To connect your source (such as a 3D Blu-ray Disc player) to your display, you'll need a high-speed HDMI cable. Cables with this designation feature bandwidth speeds up to 10.2 Gbps (gigabits per second), for carrying the 3D signal without any loss of quality.

If you want to get more information about 3D, shop our 3D products, watch videos, or interact with other customers, we invite you to visit 3D 101, our customer center about everything 3D.

Manufacturers continue to add new content to their offerings, keeping customers current through firmware updates, and making a bit of research a prudent step in your buying decision.

Customer Review :

Fantastic picture and unbelievable sound! : Panasonic DMP-BDT310 Integrated-Wi-Fi 3D Blu-ray DVD Player

I was expecting to replace my media player (ASUS) using this one. I believed that it will be faster, easier to use and would support everything I need. So to cut the cr** here are pros and cons.
PROS:
- Fast. Boot, MKV rewind, Network Access.
- HDMI CEC together with Viera TV works perfectly! There is much more than it is required according to CEC standard. Navigation, options works using TV remote.
- Works fine with Windows 7 shared folders and DLNA.
- I thought touchless sensor is not relevant, but my kids like it a lot and they do not touch the equipment :)
- MKV and DTS combinations are supported.
- SETUP IS EASY. If you have normal TV (HDMI CEC and HDMI ARC) then setup of TV/AV Receiver/Player can be done using wizard. No additional settings need to be changed.
- Option to turn off TV while playing music. Works correctly and does not turn off AV receiver.
- BD-RE with movies works fine.
- Completely silent. That is awesome.

CONS:
- "Play to" aka Media Renderer function is buggy or maybe it is router. Don't know. Stops playing after couple of minutes
- No MPEG2 support in MKV.
- USB supports only divx and mkv videos. That is nonsense, cause to backup your DVD collection you will need pay additional $ to divx. This is hidden and you will discover the fact only when you buy the player.
- It is nonsense that there are different formats supported on BD-RE and BD-R disks. MKV is not supported on BD-RE. Even VOB files are not recognized on BD-RE, though they claim that "Video" is supported on DVD/BD-R/BD-RE discs.
- USB sticks with exFAT are not supported. So if you have larger file you will have to buy expensive SDHC cards or use hard drive. It is stupid, but USB HDD with exFAT are supported, but USB sticks are not.
- No MKV chapter navigation, so you have to rewind the video.
- Changing subtitles or audio channels is incovenient. Really inconvenient.

Overall: Good quality and almost easy to operate, but inconsistent/incomplete format/external device support.

UPDATE AFTER ~2011-09 firmware:
+ Now it has normal support for MPEG 2 in MKV with multiple audio tracks and multiple subtitles. There is still no support for PGS subtitles and chapter navigation, however player now seem to ignore unsupported things instead of throwing error messages.
+ It seems that "Play to" bugs are gone, but it is hard to say for sure.
- MKV with VC-1 streams still not supported
- HDMV PGS subtitles in MKV are not supported.
- "Play to" works with LAN cable only. This just doesn't make sense. Why would you pay extra money for integrated wifi if you still need cable.

A Way To Monitor Your Burglar Alarm : Panasonic BL-C210A Internet Security Camera

A year or so ago, we installed an Ademco burglar alarm which we found we could not hook up to a monitoring service because we had dropped our landline. There are services that will monitor your alarm ideas through the cell phone network but they are expensive. So I decided to make a scheme out of this. I would find a way to monitor the alarm ideas with zero net monthly cash outlays. I spent idle hours wondering how I might cobble together some homemade piece of equipment that can capture the alarm signal off the Ademco and fire a programmable event on one of our computers through a Usb port or something like that. Tricky stuff. Iffy.

Then I discovered the fact that this ip camera (as well as many others) have e-mailing functionality. After a petite research I bought a merge and they are now in service. I connected the bell circuit on my Ademco, through a relay switch, to one of the two open alarm circuits on the Panasonic and now whenever the Ademco sends an alarm, we receive an e-mail with an alarm message plus, as a bonus, a photo of what the camera is looking at the time. When we get the e-mail, we can go online whether with a computer or our cell phone and see what is going on in the house. If the situation merits, we can then call the police or we can ask the neighbor to peek over. This is curious alarm monitoring as opposed to the automatic kind you get when your alarm ideas sends a signal to the monitoring hub every time the ideas is tripped for anyone imagine (I read that approximately all reports sent to the police by these systems are false and are settled on low priority). I am going to document this ideas and send it to my guarnatee agent request for a selected reduction in line with the accepted reduction you get with automatic monitoring. We have achieved our goal of a no-cost alarm notification system.

Two very good features of this unit are that you do not have to have a running computer to make it work and it receives its power over the ethernet cable. As long as your run is less than 98 feet, you can snake cable through your walls to your heart's article without worrying about how you will power the camera.

Since this camera has, in increasing to its capability to take a signal from your burglar alarm, its own internal motion-heat-sound detectors, you could also use it as a sort of burglar alarm all by itself. But it does not have the capability to act as a perimeter alarm as would be the case if you have an alarm ideas with door and/or window sensors. And it does not turn on sirens to 1.) wake you up, 2.) scare the intruders away or 3.) if they are not scared away, heighten the level of insanity that is already going on in their minds.

Like the others, I find that the camera does not accomplish well in low light. But I have any lamps in our home that are hooked up to X-10 switches. These X-10s are programmed through the burglar alarm to turn on when the alarm goes off. I have not tested them with the camera yet but I am hoping that they will supply sufficient light to let us see what is going on in the event of an alarm.

There is one glaring vulnerability in all of this: your camera gives you notification and optic way through the internet; your house connects to the internet through a wire; burglars know how to snip a wire with a wire cutters and the more experienced burglars are going to do this before they attempt to break in. I circumvented this qoute by changing my Isp. My new Isp connects the internet to my house wirelessly and that fixes that. If you do not have the wireless option, however, this issue needs to be addressed. Many alarm systems now can be fitted with an auxiliary backup expedient that calls you and/or the police through the cell phone network if your wire is cut. They cost extra both for the equipment and the ongoing use of the cell phone network.

We got a lot of value for our money here. It proved to be an elegant clarification to our qoute and added many more features to boot. I love gadgets and my heart sings whenever I see it up in the projection of my living room ceiling with its lights blinking down on me. What other citizen might think is 'beyond the scope of this review'.

On Panasonic Support: I'm not going to lower the rating on this camera because I think it is a fine product. But I will say that Panasonic keep falls far short of the mark. In trying to get the camera viewable over the internet, I talked to 4 dissimilar representatives each of whom offered a dissimilar clarification all of which were wrong. I wrote them a letter a week ago with no reply so far. So I did what I should have initially done which is to learn a petite networking, specifically port forwarding. After my research and armed with some actual knowledge, I set up the cameras properly and they are now humming along. I can prestige the reviewer who praised Panasonic support. However, that was not my experience. All these citizen had to do was to ask the right questions and then tell me what to do to configure the ideas properly. It took me, an amateur, a merge of hours to frame it out on my own and yet all four of these professionals failed to come up with the precise solution. And yes, I am fully aware that this is partly a consequent of a lack of committment on the part of supervision and not entirely the fault of the personel on the other end of the phone. 1-14-2011 Update: Yesterday, I came over a puzzling issue having to do with sending sensor messages from the camera to our Panasonic Viera Tv. Since I already know how good they are at fielding keep requests over the telephone and through the postal service, I concept it might be curious to send them an e-mail message via their website. The model of the camera was stated in the e-mail by way of the e-mail setup fields and I gave the model of the Tv in the body of the e-mail. Later that day, I received this reply which I quote in full: 'Thank you for your inquiry. What is the model # to your cameras? If you have any additonal questions or concerns, please contact our technical keep hotline at [...]. Thank you for selecting Panasonic.' added questions indeed.

Setup Note: If your network sits behind two in-line routers (one connected directly to the internet through the phone or cable Tv wires, the 'outside' router; the other sitting between the face router and the Lan: the 'inside' router) and you are having a hard time of it, recognize both the communal and hidden Ip address of the inside router. Do a petite googling to get yourself squared away on what the communal and hidden Ip addresses of a router are. Then, when you are setting up port forwarding on the face router, you need to send requests to the communal not the hidden Ip address of the inside router. Then use the hidden Ip address of the inside router as the Default Gateway in your camera settings. There are other pitfalls but this particular one was my mine.
