If you're looking for a simple point-and-shoot that you can take underwater, this camera is great.

Let me begin by explaining that I am an avid photographer; I have over $10,000 in high end DSLR equipment and lenses. I have over 20,000 photos in my collection. I know something about photography.

I recently went on a sailing vacation with my family and wanted a simple digital camera to take in the water. I wasn't looking for something high-end because all i really wanted to do was shoot pics of my kids snorkeling and scuba diving. I didn't want a disposable because they aren't digital, you usually have to wind them which is a real pain in the water, and they shoot poor pictures. My wife bought me a $500 top-of-the-line underwater point-and-shoot Panasonic Lumix but I took it back because it was overkill. It was waterproof to 40 feet, had an altimeter, etc -- I didn't need all that. I found this Kodak camera and it was perfect. It worked great -- we took on jet skis, on snorkeling trips, and down to 11 feet underwater scuba diving. It never had an issue -- it started up quickly, operated simply and reliably, and the photos are just fine. Frankly, the videos are even better -- I was surprised at good they are! Of course, the photos don't compare to my $2,000 Nikon DSLR, but I wasn't expecting them to. I just wanted a camera that could capture some of the memories of the water fun on our sailing trip, and this did it.

A versatile and tough little take-along camera : Fujifilm FinePix Z90 14 MP Digital Camera with Fujinon 5x Wide Angle Optical Zoom Lens and 3-Inch Touch-Screen LCD (Red)

I just purchased this camera about 2 weeks ago. The last camera I had was a Kodak and I had that one for over 2 years until this past March I dropped it and the exterior zoom lens got stuck and no longer works which is why I had to buy a new one.
There are several specs that got my attention with this camera such as: interior zoom lens (broke 2 camera from zoom lens), touch screen, slim size and it starts up pretty fast, 3 inch screen.
Reasons I will be returning this camera: I just came home from watching my son's 5th grade class perform and was excited to upload them so that I could email to family and friends. As I was going through the pictures I was just saddened to see how poorly the pictures came out. Now let me say that I have had cameras for many years so I know my way around a camera and settings. That being said I made sure it was set up for indoor use and optional flash and what not. I compared this brand new camera pictures to my 2 year old Kodak camera pictures and the difference is soo big that I have NO other choice than to return and start all over again. As mentioned above, I was eager thinking I found just what I needed for a good price that will take good pictures. I was proven wrong.
After returning this camera tonight, I will be looking into Kodak, Sony or Samsung... I should have listened to my husband!!
Works decent outdoors but a $50 camera does too. The indoor pics were just NO GOOD!! Might be good for someone who is starting out with a camera but for someone like myself who enjoys taking pictures of family events and whatnot, it just didn't stand up to the test.

Great underwater/Macro camera : Pentax Optio WG-1 Adventure Series 14 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 5x Wide-Angle Optical Zoom (Black)

We owned a Pentax's first waterproof camera (Optio W10) and loved it. So when it came time to upgrade we bought this one before our trip to Mexico. We select this one because of its ergonomic design. We figured this would work wonders when splashing nearby underwater and be easy to hold onto. The ergonomic develop is the only redeeming highlight of this camera.

At first we were concerned about how loose the battery door was. The battery door stayed shut but it would slide partially open when concluded and was very loose (not enough for water to categorically get in but enough to make us concerned). Mental it might just be the camera we picked up, we went back to the store where we bought it from. After seeing at other ones it appears to be part of the design. This should have been our first clue that this is a horrible camera.

While on vacation in Mexico the camera froze any times requiring the battery to be removed to get it to unfreeze. Now this can be a true qoute when you need to let the camera dry for about an hour before opportunity the battery door otherwise you risk exposing both the battery and memory card to water.

We also discovered small water spots on the inside of the display screen. Clearly it is not as waterproof as claimed. I am glad we were only using it while wading in the ocean and not categorically snorkelling.

The battery life is very poor requiring charging every two days when the camera is slowly used.

We also found the image capability not that good. After returning from our vacation, we looked at old images from our old camera (Optio W10) and they were much best even though it was only 6 megapixels. In fact the same photo taken with our iPhone 3Gs had a best image quality.

Summary
Clearly Pentax designed a nice seeing camera that gives the illusion of ruggedness; however, their yield capability of this model is very poor. We've returned the camera and are seeing for a separate one (not from Pentax) to replace it with.
